I picked up my first camera in the early 1970¹s to pass the time. The hobby became a career and before I knew it, 20+ years had passed. Over time the passion I felt for creating images started to wane. The pleasure I experienced the first time a print came up in a tray of developer had become diluted by unrealistic deadlines and the commercial aesthetics forced upon me by art directors who knew what they wanted but didn¹t know how to explain it to me.
In the last couple of years, however, I have had a renaissance of photographic inspiration. I have found my passion really lies in two specific subject areas, people and places.
The people I choose to photograph are everyday people. These people are not famous and therefore not used to having their photo taken. These people don¹t "pose" and they don¹t take on the persona their public expects. They are real people with real lives and that¹s what makes them such great subject matter.
The places I find most photographic are the few remaining primitive and empty areas in this state, most of which are found in south and west Texas. To me there is nothing more pleasing, spiritual or beautiful in nature than a desert landscape.
