Biography: |
Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, Daggi came to the United States in 1979 at the age of sixteen.
Having had her first painting lessons at the age of five, she continued drawing and painting through childhood into adulthood. Primarily self-taught she continues her studies through workshops and classes by nationally known artists. Daggi works mostly in pastel, a medium which she considers the perfect bridge between drawing and painting. Her subject matter includes landscapes, still lifes, figures and portraits. Finding satisfaction in realism, impressionism and abstraction, the artist's main inspiration is light and shadow, mood and atmosphere, while passion for the subject is of great importance. The design and color choices reflect her own reaction to and interpretation of any given subject. Her aim is to call the viewer's attention to the beauty that surrounds us every day in even the simplest things so that we may never take it for granted.Traveling extensively she sketches and paints on location, but usually completes larger pieces, portraits and figures in her home studio in Dallas, TX.
Recent works include a series of surfers from her many travels to Hawaii and California to be shown in Laguna Beach in the summer of 2007, as well as several portrait commissions and plein air studies.Daggi's work is in private collections in the U.S., Switzerland, Italy and Germany as well as in the permanent collection of the Wichita Center for the Arts in Wichita, Kansas. She has been accepted into numerous regional, national and international competitions, winning awards ranging from "Best of Show" to "Honorable Mention". Her work has been published in "International Artist" magazine, "The Pastel Journal" and "Pockets" children's magazine several times and she illustrated "Katherine Stinson Otero - High Flyer", a picture book for Pelican Publishing in 2006. In 2007 she was one of the featured artists in the art book "Best of America Pastel Artists & Artisans".
