Smithsonian Museum Day
2-5 PM on Saturday, Sept. 25
A variety of activities for families will take place as the Arts Center offers a preview of our upcoming blockbuster Genghis Khan: The Exhibition, opening June 1, 2011 and celebrates its affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution. Smithsonian Museum Day is a nationally-celebrated event for institutions that are part of the Smithsonian Affiliations program. The Arts Center was accepted as an affiliate in 2007.
During Museum Day, create Mongolian-themed art projects and watch screenings of The Story of the Weeping Camel and a Discovery Channel documentary about uncovering ancient cities in Mongolia. The Arts Center will also offer an art project as part of the Irving Public Library's Big Read program. The art project will focus on the 2010 Big Read selection, Call of the Wild. Pick up Call of the Wild books and chat with the librarians about participating in the annual program.
Smithsonian Museum Day activities will take place in the Dupree Theater, Dupree Lobby and Rehearsal Hall.
