New Philharmonic Orchestra Of Irving Auditions
Joining the New Philharmonic is a painless process. Auditions are held twice a year – immediately before the beginning of the season and again as needed in early January. All prospective members and any current violinists who wish to play in the first violin section are asked to play a musical selection of their choice, about 3-5 minutes in length. Choose something that best represents your current level of playing ability. Prospective members of the wind, brass, and percussion section are encouraged to audition as well, but due to the stability of these sections, auditions will be used, usually, to determine the list of substitutes. For more information about auditions, or how to join at times not near regular auditions, contact the personnel manager for your section

Rehearsals: Held at the Irving Arts Center in the rehearsal hall on Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 10:00, except for the last Tuesday rehearsal before the concert which starts at 7:00. They also have Saturday afternoon dress rehearsals from 1:30 – 4:00 pm. (Occasionally we have to deviate from this schedule but notification is provided way in advance.) Down beat is promptly at 7:30, 7:00 or 1:30 as appropriate, so please be warmed up and ready to play.
Attendance: Regular attendance is important to achieve the high level of musical performance of which the orchestra is capable. Members are expected to attend at least 3 of 5 regular rehearsals and the dress rehearsals, which are mandatory. However, in the event of an unavoidable conflict, every attempt will be made to accommodate the needs and situations of our members. A member is not required to commit to each concert in a season (there are five), but once a commitment is made, every effort should be made to honor it.
