Fannie Brito: Worlds of Color & Light

December 1, 2017 - February 25, 2018

| Free

Exhibition features mixed media paintings by Fannie Brito, an Irving-based artist and Best of Show recipient in the 2017 Art Connection Members Show (as pictured).

Ethereal, atmospheric, hypnotic, and even healing have all been used to describe the transcendent experience that is the art of Fannie Brito. Through the sensuous blending of color, text, imagery and emotions, an internal dialogue of abstract expression between artist and media invites the viewer to see the world through the prism of Brito’s soul. A process that begins with free thought journaling on a blank canvas evolves through the layering and subtraction of raw pigments, oils and acrylics until the words are obscured and the subconscious revealed – a place where language and emotion become color and light.

Fannie Brito was born in Carmel, California and grew up with three brothers in Caracas, Venezuela where her parents were avid art patrons. She studied Art History and French in Montreux, Switzerland and went on to receive a degree in medicine from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. In 1990, Fannie moved to Dallas to raise her three children. Ten years later, she decided to follow her passion for art, leaving the health field to study painting and photography. An Abstract Expressionist, Fannie has been influenced by the work of Alirio Palacios, Mark Rothko, Robert Rauschenberg, Marc Chagall and Anselm Kiefer. Fannie is an active member of the Dallas arts community and has exhibited her work in more than 90 juried shows. She was selected for the inaugural exhibition of the Latino Cultural Center and at the African American Museum, both in Dallas.

Fannie’s studio is in the historic Continental Gin Building in Dallas. She has taught painting, photography, and 3-D design and has a certification in Expressive Art Therapy. Her work can be found in private collections in Venezuela, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe and throughout the United States.
