Presented by the Islamic Art Revival Series in partnership with Irving Arts Center, the 5th Annual Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Islamic Art is a program of the Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation.

This prestigious international exhibition of artwork is inspired by Islamic culture, art, literature and architecture and features works in a variety of styles and media from artists around the world.  Coming from diverse backgrounds, with varying faiths, ages and levels of expertise, the exhibition aims to present Islamic art as a universal language,  a translator and connector of generations and cultures.

2016 Juror: Dr. Maryam Ekhtiar, Associate Curator of Islamic Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Bahman Panahi, artist, master calligrapher and musician– “The Musicality of Calligraphy.” Reception and performance follows talk.

WORKSHOPS: EASTERN WEAVING & INTERFAITH SYMBOLISM IN SACRED GEOMETRY
Eastern Weaving (Instructor: Samia Khan) & Interfaith Symbolism in Sacred Geometry (Instructor: Matt Anzak).

Geometric Art!  Guided by artists, budding artists of all ages make art projects inspired by the exhibition. Supplies provided.

TALK/RECEPTION PERFORMANCE:
TALK: Jason Moriyama, architect and senior partner at Moriyama and Teshima, Toronto, “Interfaith Spaces: Towards an Architecture of Understanding.”
RECEPTION PERFORMANCE: Ismaili Muslim Youth Choir of Dallas conducted by Dr. Tina Mohammad, will accompany an art installation by artist, Shafaq Ahmad. (Follows talk, Main Gallery).
Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. (in the Dupree Theater followed by a reception in the Main Gallery)
