BAM! It’s a Picture Book: The Art behind Graphic Novels celebrates the art and literature of graphic novels. Toured by the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature (NCCIL) in Abilene, it features several of today’s leading graphic novelists, featuring illustrations from Mark Crilley, Matthew Holm, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Lincoln Pierce and Raina Telgemeier. The exhibition showcases artwork from such iconic books as Baby Mouse, Big Nate, Lunch Lady, Brody’s Ghost and Smile.

A selection of prints from Phoenix-based photographer, Jesse Rieser’s ongoing project documenting uniquely American Christmas traditions is featured in Irving Arts Center's Focus Gallery. Images range from thousands of Santas running in an annual fundraising race to homes, yards and garages transformed into monuments of merriness with countless strings of lights and inflatables of amazing proportions. Capturing the spectacular, sincere and often idiosyncratic ways people mark the holiday’s meaning, Rieser celebrates the celebration of all things Christmas.

Grant Wood and the American Heartland: Prints & Works on Paper

Organized and presented by Irving Arts Center in conjunction with Celebrating Irving 2018, this exhibition features prints and works on paper by American painter, Grant Wood and his fellow Regionalists, including Thomas Hart Benton, John Bloom and John Steuart Curry. The exhibition features the 19 lithographs Wood created during the Great Depression that were printed and distributed by Associated American Artists (AAA) as well as two scale drawings of soldiers portrayed in the 24 x 20 ft. stained glass Memorial Window he designed for the Veterans Memorial Building in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (1928-29).
