MISSION STATEMENT

"The Irving Arts Center Galleries are for the exhibition, promotion and exposure of the visual arts to the citizens of Irving and surrounding communities. Exhibits in the Irving Arts Center Galleries shall encourage creativity, participation, inspiration and an increased awareness of the visual arts in visitors. Each year exhibits in the areas of painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, graphics, illustration, fiber arts and other creative or visual arts will be presented to the public. In addition, special collections, touring shows, scientific and educational exhibitions and demonstrations will be promoted for the education and participation of the public."

The Irving Arts Center - a 91,500+ sq. ft. performing and visual arts complex - is a non-collecting institution with an active and ongoing visual arts program. One of the primary goals of the Arts Center's visual arts programming is to provide an engaging and exciting venue for exhibiting the work of both established and emerging artists in Texas. In addition to local and Texas-based artists, artists of both national and international renown are featured as well as touring exhibitions.

Exhibition spaces include the 4,000 sq. ft. Main Gallery, the Focus Gallery, the spacious Carpenter Performance Hall Lobby, the Dupree Theater Lobby and the Sculpture Garden.

PROCEDURE FOR ARTISTS SEEKING CONSIDERATION

The Arts Center’s visual arts program is managed internally and includes exhibitions curated in-house as well as nationally touring exhibitions. Individual artists seeking consideration for exhibition opportunities should send a current resume, an artist's statement, digital files on a CD-Rom (JPG files with a dpi of 300) of recent or proposed work and any other supportive materials with a cover letter. Also included should be a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of materials. Slides, photographs and digital files must be clearly labeled with artist, title, dimensions and media. Send all materials to Marcie J. Inman, Director of Exhibitions & Educational Programs, Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas 75062. Materials are reviewed on a continuous basis and may be retained for 12 -18 months. Exhibitions are scheduled one to three years out. All media is considered.

ART CONNECTION MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM

Art Connection is the Irving Arts Center’s membership program for the visual arts. Membership benefits for artists include a listing in the Arts Center’s on-line artist registry and opportunities to participate in members-only exhibitions.

EXHIBITION PROPOSALS BY ARTS ORGANIZATIONS

The Irving Arts Center has the first priority on scheduling and use of all the visual arts exhibition spaces for its programming. Founding Organizations and the Irving Independent School District Art Department who present annual exhibitions at the Irving Arts Center have the second priority for the booking of the Main and Focus Galleries. (Founding Organizations are defined as non-profit 501 (c)(3) organizations whose primary purposes are the establishment, promotion, practice of, or support for secular arts activities and who receive consistent grant support from the Irving Arts Board.)

A Non-Resident Art Group that has been in existence for at least three years with a documented record of producing and mounting exhibitions is eligible to submit an exhibition proposal to the Director of Exhibitions & Educational Programs. All such requests by art organizations are subject to space availability, review by the Visual Arts Program Committee and approval by Irving Arts Board.

(The galleries may be rented for social functions and non-exhibition activities. Click here to request more information or contact Adalia Trevino at (972) 252-7558 for determination of availability, appropriateness and compatibility with the Irving Arts Center’s Visual Arts Program Activities.)

The Irving Arts Center Executive Director and Director of Exhibitions & Educational Programs have full responsibility for the scheduling and operation of all exhibition spaces. The IAC Board of Directors’ Visual Arts Program Committee reviews all proposed exhibitions upon the recommendation of the Executive Director and Director of Exhibitions & Educational Programs.
