Artist Statement

I paint because I can feel free, empowered and open to all chances. It is not possible to take photos of my imaginary places, people, patterns and designs. But painting materializes my imaginary visions so I can share it with the rest of the world.

Sometimes I paint what I had imagined. At other times I imagine as I paint. However, it is beautiful to just create. It is an enriching feeling. Isn’t it a beautiful fact that innumerable creations are possible through one creation, oneself ?

Painting is part of who I am, my past experiences, present fantasies and future visions. It thrills me because I’m unaware of what is going to happen till I finish. The goal is achievable but is always unlimited, full of possibilities and the choices all mine.

So I sit to paint as blank as the canvas itself. It is time to have a settled mind ready to be playful as a child. I know no fear. It all starts with soft strokes, lines and curves up and down, right and left. Sometimes it goes in a completely new direction but mistakes if I call so, help me find better things and teach me patience to learn and re-learn.

Painting de-stresses me, relieves me. What is expressed on my canvas fills me with curiosity and I start to reason with it until I can come up with a story. When it cannot be described in words I say to myself simply, “behold it is a painting!”

I write, click photos and speak in five languages. I can express myself in abundant ways yet not like when I paint.

What appears on my canvas is something after I loosen and reduce my tempo, after I go blank for a while. Then another story begins, this time on the canvas in a very different language that can only be felt.
