As an artist, setting up a dialogue in my paintings between historical and contemporary thought is a prime motivator for me. As a professor of art history, I have many opportunities to explore symbols and techniques from cultures past and present. Most recently, the painting compositions utilize a Japanese aesthetic, becoming more poetic, less prosaic. Created in a historical technique of grisaille and glazes, the oil paintings have depth and luminosity, and are often focused on the beauty of the natural realm.
An avid traveler, I have studied on site many of the art historical pieces I discuss in my art history lectures and paintings. In 2007, I taught in Rome, Florence, Ravenna and Venice in the Rome Program from North Lake College. Since 2003, I have been a Professor of Art teaching Art History, Painting and Art Appreciation at North Lake College. My paintings can be seen at A.H. Belo Corporation Foundation, Dallas, Texas; Lexus Corporation, Texas; Communities Foundation of Texas purchased by the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation, Dallas, Texas, and at Marie Park Studio in Dallas.
Online, my paintings can be seen at www.MelodeeMartinRamirez.com, www.dallasartsrevue.com and www.northlakecollege.edu on the faculty art pages.
