Call for Volunteers for Advisory Grant Review Panel
7/7/2011 2:12:16 PM
APPLICATION DEADLINE August 1, 2011
IRVING, Texas – The Irving Arts Center is seeking nominations for volunteers to serve on the Advisory Grant Review Panel, starting in September 2011. Volunteers may be nominated by colleagues or apply personally using the application form available at www.IrvingArtsCenter.com under the “Get Involved” section. Deadline for submission is Aug. 1, 2011.
Panelists are appointed by the Irving Arts Board and serve a two-year term. They play an important role in the process through which funding is awarded to area non-profit arts groups – which include the Irving Arts Center’s 12 Founding Arts Organizations. In FY10,11, $365,000 was distributed by the Irving Arts Board for projects that included symphony concerts, plays and musicals, art exhibitions, ballet performances, youth programs and more.
The Irving Arts Center’s Founding Arts Organizations include Lyric Stage, ICT MainStage, Irving Symphony Orchestra, Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, Momentum Dance Company, New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving, Irving Symphonic Band, Irving Black Arts Council, Academy of Bangla Arts and Culture, Entertainment Series of Irving, Irving Art Association and Irving Chorale.
The Arts Center has seven openings for the Advisory Grant Review Panel. The panelists will reflect the diversity of Irving and include balanced representation of those with expertise, experience and knowledge of theater, music, dance and the visual arts. While applicants must be residents of Irving there is one opening for a non-resident expert who holds a position within an arts-related field.
Applicants should have a demonstrated knowledge of the visual and/or performing arts as practicing artists, qualified arts consumers or representatives from various cultural constituencies. Panelists volunteer their time as a service to the Irving Arts Center and the Irving arts community.
Panelists will be expected to attend funded activities during their term (tickets provided by the Arts Center). They will not make funding decisions and may not review applications from applicants with whom they may have a conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest. Panelists will review grant applications, rank them as to their relative quality and merit based on other applications and assess the probability of each applicant achieving their proposed project goals. The panel provides advice and guidance to the Irving Arts Board and may be asked to do the same for staff members and the Arts Board in working with applicant organizations in the future.
