Session One: All About Painting

October 7-November 11, 2023  |  2pm-4pm | Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: Sheila Cunningham

Students will explore different painting techniques based on classic art styles, learning a variety of skills, tips and tricks to create a number of effects. Inspired by famous paintings, students will then create their very own masterpieces.

Session Two: Illustrated Story Quilts

January 6-February 10, 2024  |  2pm-4pm | Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: Linda Disoway

Quilts have often served as recorded histories of families, events, and cultures. In this Saturday School session students will view samples of quilts and storytelling in art, especially the well-known story quilts of celebrated African American artist, Faith Ringgold. Students will then select a story to illustrate–either from a book, family history, or an experience of their own and then create their selected scene on fabric using watercolor pencils and pastels. In this interdisciplinary class, students will start with the fundamentals and then progress to in-depth dives into the mediums of painting, drawing, storytelling, stitching, collaging and printmaking to create a truly unique and original work of art.

Session Three: Mixed Media Explorations

February 17-March 23, 2024  |  2pm-4pm  |  Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: Sheila Cunningham

Explore and combine different art materials, tools and processes! Techniques such as painting, collage, printmaking, stenciling and sculpture will be studied and incorporated to make new artworks. Through creative applications of layering and design using texture, color, shape and various materials, students will construct their own vibrant and inspired compositions.

Session Four: Knots & Weaves: Fun with Fiber Arts

April 6-May 11, 2024  |  2pm-4pm  |  Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: VET

Join us and have fun learning to work with fibers! Artist VET will demonstrate easy step-by-step techniques to weave, wrap, twist and braid an assortment of yearns and threads of various textures to create different designs and embellishments. Projects will include hand-building stuffed animals decorated with fringes, tassels, charms, beads and other items; weaving brightly colored wall hangings and creating fabric artist cards to share and trade.
