Second Sunday Fundays


Family Funday is back on the 2nd Sunday of every month with extended hours!

Second Sunday Fundays  I  1 – 4pm   I  FREE

Irving Arts Center offers the perfect framework for adults and children to experience art together. Second Sunday Family Fundays hands-on art days give parents and children projects they can co-create, far from daily distractions. Find inspiration in the gallery exhibitions, holidays and seasons as families make art, friends and fun.

December 11- Tossed and Found
Go “green” this Christmas by making art using found objects and recyclable materials. Gallery inspiration: 24th Annual Holiday Exhibition of Student Art and Decorated Trees.

BONUS: December offers extra chances to for family fun at Holiday Fundays on Saturday Dec. 3, 10 & 17 from 2-4 p.m. Snap a pic with Santa, create environmentally friendly holiday crafts and make greeting cards with the Irving Art Association.

January 8-Art Safari
Create art based on adventures, travel and exploration. Gallery inspiration: Rarely Seen: Photographs of the Extraordinary from National Geographic Society.

February 12 – Our Portraits, Our Selves (Portraits and Identity)
Leave your mark and create a memory through the art of portrait making. Gallery inspiration: Portraits of Freedom/Texas Runaway Slave Project.

March 12 – The Eyes Of Texas!
Make a work of art that celebrates Texas and Women’s History Month. Gallery Inspiration: Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker Trail exhibit, A Woman OF Two Worlds and a Man IN Two Worlds.

April 9- Make the Scene
Celebrate the importance of landscapes in artwork by making one of your own in honor of Earth Day. Gallery inspiration: Resonance and Memory: Essence of Landscape.

May 14 – Masterpieces with Mom
Commemorate Mother’s Day by creating a tribute to Mom based on famous mothers in art through the ages.   Gallery inspiration: Texas & Neighbors exhibition.

June 11 – Flower Power
Art blooms with summer flora setting an example. Gallery inspiration: The Association of Oriental Arts’ Annual Exhibition of Paintings & Ikebana and James Surl’s Star Flower sculpture.

July 9 – Summer Splash
If you can’t be in the pool, beat the heat by painting one!  Inspiration: David Hockney’s swimming pool paintings.

August 13 – Sculpt It
Enter the third dimension and create a clay creation.  Gallery inspiration: Irving Arts Center’s Sculpture Garden.

September 10 – Comically Yours
Tell a story by drawing a comic strip. Gallery inspiration: BAM! It’s a Picture Book: The Art Behind Graphic Novels.
