Irving Arts Center offers the perfect framework for adults and children to experience art together. Second Sunday Family Fundays hands-on art days give parents and children projects they can co-create, far from daily distractions. Find inspiration in the gallery exhibitions, holidays and seasons as families make art, friends and fun.  And the best part?  It’s FREE!

Sept. 10, 2017 – Draw It! (Comically Yours)
Drawings inspired by comic strips and Japanese manga.
Inspiration: BAM! It’s a Picture Book: The Art Behind Graphic Novels

Oct. 8, 2017 – Geometric Art Art-making activities will include creating collages with shapes and using patterns to embellish projects as we explore geometric art in various cultures and traditions.
Inspiration: 6th Annual International Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Islamic Art

Nov. 12, 2017 – Unleash the Beasts!
Unleash the beasts… as we celebrate animals, both domestic and wild, as well as the compositions of Les Fauves (French for “the wild beasts”), the early 20th century artists known for their expressive style using strong color and bold brushwork.

Dec. 10, 2017 – Holidays Around the World: Festival of Lights Festive art projects celebrating the use of lights and lanterns in holiday traditions around the world.

Jan. 14, 2018 – I Have a Dream
Art projects celebrating Martin Luther King’s Birthday and the power of creative vision.
Inspiration: This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement

Feb. 11, 2018 – Chinese New Year: Year of the Dog In anticipation of the upcoming Chinese New Year (Feb. 16), fun projects will include traditional paper crafts and the Chinese animal zodiac.

March 11, 2018 – Lone Star State of Mind Art-making activities celebrating Texas-themed folk art and crafts.
Inspiration: March is Texas History Month, Women’s History Month and National Quilting Month!

April 8, 2018 – Grant Wood’s American Heartland Art projects inspired by Grant Wood, a painter from Iowa (best known for his iconic painting, American Gothic) who depicted everyday life in small towns and the rural landscapes of the Midwest. Inspiration: Grant Wood/Celebrate Irving 2018 event and exhibition.

May 13, 2018 – Masterpieces with Mom May 13 is Mother’s Day! Bring your mom, aunt, grandma or other significant person in your life and celebrate this special day by making some amazing art!

June 10, 2018 – The Wright Stuff
Design some seriously astounding structures as we celebrate the birthday of the great American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright (June 8, 1867 – April 9, 1959).

July 8, 2018 – Summer Splash
Chill out and create a cool work of art inspired by summer fun at the beach and by the pool.

August 12, 2018 – Sculpt It!
Exploration of three-dimensional art with clay & other media.

Sept. 9, 2018 – Paint It!
Grab a paintbrush & go with the flow to create colorful compositions.
Inspiration: Autumn colors and the changing of the seasons
