The Art of Money!
October 14, 2026 from 10AM to 12NOON
Instructor: Linda Disosway
This month’s inspiration is from the exhibition, Cultural Currency: Contemporary Art from the Riemer Collection. This amazing exhibition featuring 38 artists is a nationally touring exhibition presenting the unique and innovative uses of money as a medium to explore preconceived notions of value and worth. Come see some fun ways these artists have used money and then think about how you might do the same! Can you create your own version of money? What would it look like? Come ready to create your own mixed media Cultural Currency!
Let’s Celebrate Black History Month!
February 10, 2027 from 10AM to 12NOON
Instructor: Sonia Krusleski
February’s inspiration is celebrating and creating art inspired by African American artists past and present. With a focus on portraits done by artists Kehinde Wiley and Bisa Butler, we will create portraits of yourself, a friend, a parent, or even your pet! Feel free to bring a printed copy of the portrait you would like to use, or you can draw and paint yours. We will create colorful, patterned backgrounds using a variety of materials on canvas and then paint our portraits on top as the final layer of the piece. Come with some fun ideas for portraits and patterns because anything goes with these two artists for inspiration!
Wild & Wonderful Landscapes
May 5, 2027 from 10AM to 12NOON
Instructor: Sonia Krusleski
The inspiration for May’s Homeschooler Happenings is our very own long time Docent and local artist, Robert Batson’s exhibition, Robert Batson: The Artist at 80. His exhibition explores mixed media with a focus on landscapes. These are not your traditional landscapes so come prepared to experiment with materials and create your own landscape using a variety of materials. The artist himself may even pop in to do a demo!
