Saturday School at Irving Arts Center
Classes meet on six consecutive Saturdays from 2pm-4pm from October through May. Ages 6-10. Tuition is $95 per session including supplies. Tuition for each 6-week session is $95 (art supplies included). Art Connection members with a Smithsonian Affiliate/Family and above membership receive a 10% discount.
Session One: The FUNdamentals of Drawing

Instructor: Sheila Cunningham
Learning the fundamentals of drawing is considered essential to building a foundation in the principles of art and its creation. This class is a fun introduction to basic drawing skills, focusing on the development of observational skills and still life drawing techniques in graphite, charcoal and ink.
Session Two: The FUNdamentals of Painting
Jan 9 – Feb 13, 2027 | 2pm-4pm | Ages 6-10

Students will learn the fundamentals of painting as they explore the elements and principles of art and design. They will use these basics as building blocks to create projects using different painting mediums and styles inspired by great masterworks of art.
Session Three: The FUNdamentals of Sculpture
Feb 20-March 27, 2027 | 2pm-4pm | Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)

This introductory course provides young students with a foundational understanding of sculpture as a three-dimensional art form. Students will craft sculptures using a variety of materials like clay, wire, cardboard, paper, plastic and papier mâché.
Session Four: Mixed Media Explorations
April 3-May 8, 2027 | 2pm-4pm | Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: Linda Disosway
Explore and combine different art materials, tools and processes! Techniques such as painting, collage, printmaking, stenciling and sculpture will be studied and incorporated to make new artworks. Through creative applications of layering and design using texture, color, shape and various materials, students will construct their own vibrant and inspired compositions.
ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTORS
Linda Disosway
Linda is a mixed media artist and educator who teaches and exhibits throughout Dallas, Fort Worth and the surrounding areas. She has taught classes for Irving Arts Center since 1995.
Sheila Cunningham
Sheila is a fine art photographer exploring the world through cell phone photography, digital collages, Polaroid transfers and artist books. She teaches workshops at universities and fine art centers throughout the country and exhibits her work in one-person and national juried shows.
VET
VET, a recipient of a National Endowment of the Arts award, is a native Texas artist who incorporates environmental recycling awareness through her artwork, commissions and various workshops.
