We have many opportunities, specifically for teens at Irving Arts Center! Whether you’re looking for a space to create art with friends and peers, or looking to volunteer, we have got you covered!
OPEN STUDIO FOR TEENS
Our Open Studio for Teens program is a FREE monthly program, every second Sunday of the month from 1-4 pm. There is a theme but teens are encouraged to JUST CREATE! We have a range of art supplies and materials with which to experiment. Pop in, create and HAVE FUN!

Sept. 14 – Folk Art & Outsider Art
Inspired by the artists featured in the Arts Center’s exhibition Rooted Visions, transform found objects and ordinary materials into extraordinary works of art that tell your own story.

Grab a paintbrush & go with the flow to create colorful compositions inspired by nature and your own imagination!

Inspired by the artists Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, create a portrait with a vibrant patterned background.

March 8 – Tessellations & Geometric Art
What do the prints of world-famous graphic artist MC Escher and traditional quilts have in common? Geometric shapes, repeating patterns, mathematical principles and tremendous visual appeal. Learn how to create some mesmerizing designs & cool optical effects on paper.

April 12– Upcycled Art
Celebrate Earth Month by repurposing recyclable materials and other discarded items into unique works of art.

June 14 – Summer Camp Craft Classics
Crafty, cool classics like rock painting, friendship bracelets and god’s eye weavings are on the menu for old-school fun – or as a launchpad for a more creative take!

July 12 – Happy Birthday, Frida Kahlo!
Artist Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) is known for her self-portraits and works inspired by the nature, artifacts and popular culture of Mexico as well as political and social issues. Celebrate the truly independent spirit of this icon by creating a work of art inspired by her legacy.

Monthly meetings are mandatory as this is a Teen Advisory opportunity. Meetings are held the second Sunday of every month at 1:30 pm.
