Colors of Peru / Los Colores del Peru

Presented in collaboration with Terra Art, the exhibition features the work of Peruvian artists Jose Gomez, Joselito Sabogal, Wilbert Piscoya, Jorge Arce, Juan Carlos Zeballos, and Borka Sattler.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Jose Gomez: Born in Lima, Peru, Gomez’s paintings are nourished by people’s experience with the cities; buildings, crowded houses, cars, boats and mass traffic.

Joselito Sabogal: Born in Cajamarca, Peru, Sabogal builds a symbolic, surreal world, in which drawing is essential. He outlines details, highlights the lines that define faces, and seeks to capture an animistic world full of characters, spirits, longings, feelings and observation.

Wilbert Piscoya: Born in Chiclayo, Peru, Piscoya’s work is rooted in pre-Columbian iconography, producing paintings which are strongly symbolic. Discreet and with a sparse composition, the works have a timeless quality yet recall an ancestral past. Piscoya creates every piece, including the paper he paints on, from sand and dust.

Jorge Arce: Born in Lima, Peru, Arce is a musician, sound designer and painter.  As an artist, Arce has been described as an authentic creator by having a particular vision of the world that is singular and untransferable in its color and stroke. His paintings are diaphanous curtains, full of color and feeling, arousing graphisms of the Taoist and Buddhist tradition.

Juan Carlos Zeballos: Born in Arequipa, Peru, Zeballos’ work has been exhibited in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.  Based in Paris, Zeballos has in recent years participated in such Parisian art fairs as the Salon d’Automne; the Salon des Beaux-Arts at the Carrousel du Louvre; the Réalités Nouvelles, Art Capital of the Grand Palais; the Salon of Versailles; the Salon of Charenton; and international watercolor Biennials such as Arcachon, Narbonne and Brioude.

Borka Sattler: Born in Lima, Peru, Borka is an internationally recognized artist with a long and respected history of individual and collective exhibitions across the America, Europe and Asia. Inspired by the forms and images of the great past of the Incas, her work is rooted in history, literature and legend.
