Lunch & Learn with Guest Speaker / artist: Jon Fontenot

Lunch & Learn is a free monthly in-person program, typically held the first Tuesday of the month, 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. at Irving Arts Center.  The guest speaker for our May 7 Lunch & Learn is artist and art educator, Jon Fontenot.  

Jonathan (Jon) Fontenot is an artist working in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and has been a teacher at Irving High School in Irving, TX since 2001. His one-person exhibition at Irving Arts Center, Pathways and Influences: Paintings by Jon Fontenot features his latest work that focuses on landscapes and fields of color.

Working from photographs he’s taken to capture a specific color, texture, or mood, Fontenot accepts the challenge of capturing and transforming an experience. Along with imagery drawn from the natural world as well as architectural elements, his compositions often feature painted patterns of numbers meant to bring about an understanding of spirituality, connectivity, and our hierarchical relationship to each other and the forces within creation.

With a desire to pull himself as well as the viewer into the work amidst the saturation of color and texture, Fontenot invites the viewer to immerse themselves and to contemplate the pathways of life and decisions.

Pathways and Influences: Paintings by Jon Fontenot is on exhibit in the Arts Center’s Dupree Lobby Gallery through June 1, 2024.

About Lunch & Learn

Irving Arts Center’s Lunch & Learn program meets the first Tuesday of the month, October through May, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.

Since 2014, this informal art education program for adults has provided fun and informative enrichment opportunities as well as a lively discussion forum for exploring current exhibitions at IAC and other art-related topics.

Lunch & Learn is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch or snack.

The May 7 program is the last offering of the 2023-2024 series. The series will resume in the fall.
