Marilyn Henrion: 93 at 93, Selected Works Part II

In celebration of her 93rd year, acclaimed textile artist Marilyn Henrion will be honored with a solo exhibition showcasing 93 of her original hand-quilted and mixed-media textile works.

Marilyn Henrion: 93 at 93, Selected Works Part II will be on view in the Carpenter Lobby Gallery at Irving Arts Center November 8, 2025 through February 28, 2026 with a reception scheduled for January 11, 2026 from 2-4PM.  Part 1 of the exhibition will be on view from October 2-25 in the Green Mezzanine Gallery at the Eisemann Performing Arts Center in Richardson.

The exhibitions highlight the extraordinary breadth of Henrion’s creative journey—from geometric abstraction to digitally manipulated photographs—capturing nearly a century of vision, experimentation, and mastery.

Henrion’s innovative fusion of traditional hand quilting and contemporary digital technology reflects a lifelong passion for both craft and concept. Her works are grounded in photography—urban landscapes, architectural forms, and the natural world—which are then digitally manipulated and transformed into evocative quilted artworks. Whether abstract or representational, each piece is a tactile meditation on memory, place, and perception.

“Although all of the images I create from my original photographs are manipulated in the computer before I commit them to a work,” Henrion reflects, “I am often conflicted about how much abstraction I want to employ. A fascination with detail vies with the emotional component conveyed in the abstraction.”

Henrion’s work is included in prestigious museum collections including the Museum of Arts & Design in New York, the International Quilt Museum, the Central Museum of Textiles in Poland and Newark Art Museum in Newark, New Jersey. She is also represented in the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Art. She was a member of the original Manhattan Quilters’ Guild of the 1970s and a lifelong New Yorker, her influence has shaped the discourse on fiber as fine art for more than five decades.

Artist Reception:
A reception for the exhibition will be held on Sunday, January 11 from 2-4PM.  The reception is free and open to the public.

**Please note a portion of this exhibition is accessible by stairs only.
