Lunch & Learn with Guest Speaker / Artist: Robert Batson

Lunch & Learn is a free monthly in-person program, held the first Tuesday of the month, from 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. at Irving Arts Center. Irving-based artist and retired architect, Robert Batson, will join us Tuesday, October 6 from noon to 1:30PM as our featured guest speaker for the first installment of our 2026-2027 Lunch Series.

Robert will speak about his travels in Mexico and Central America, sharing his personal photography documenting cultural and religious celebrations. Presented in conjunction with the current exhibition, Trail of Marvels: Popular Fiestas of Mexico on view in the Arts Center’s Carpenter Lobby Gallery through Nov. 7.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Robert exhibits his art at the Taos Artist Collective gallery in Taos, New Mexico and the Fine Arts New Mexico gallery in Arroyo Seco. He also volunteers at the Irving Arts Center as a docent and participates in the family, youth and teen programs. Robert has previously exhibited at the Irving Arts Center — Weaving Paint: A Concept Revisited (2016) and New Works: 2019 – 2021 (2021), and at the Irving Archives & Museum — Diptychs, Triptychs and Other Experiments (2024).

ABOUT LUNCH AND LEARN

Since 2014, this informal art education program for adults has provided fun and informative enrichment opportunities as well as a lively discussion forum for exploring current exhibitions at IAC and other art-related topics.

Irving Arts Center’s Lunch & Learn program is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch or snack.

The series runs October through May.  The next instalment of 2026-2027 series will be November 10 and will feature Ximena Peryea. She will speak about her late sister’s artwork on exhibit in Came in Water, Left in Wind: Mariella Cadena Angel in the Dupree Lobby Gallery, Oct. 24 – Jan. 30.
